Potluck + Spring Music Concert + FSGC BBQ Night

Rather long post ahead, as you can imagine from the post title.

Amran, Delima, Elton, Heng Cheng, Henry, Nicola, Shereen, and I had a potluck dinner at my place last weekend. There was potato salad, baked cheese chicken vege thingy, chicken wings, Moroccan lamb attempt, fruit salad, baked cheese cake, alcohol-removed wine(?), and agar-agar. The food was good, the company was even better.

And although the lamb dish didn’t turn out quite as well as I hoped it would (I’d say 65% of the meat was too rare, 15% was edible, and 20% was good), it was a good experience:

  • Going to the market in the morning to get the meat and herbs
  • First time actually purchasing herbs
  • Couldn’t tell the difference between coriander and parsley
  • Taking such a long time to finely chop all 3 bunches (mint as well)

Doubt that I’m gonna make another attempt at it anytime soon. Shall stick to easy cooking for a bit and focus on my studies more. Right.

[14 October, Wednesday]

Trinity College had it’s annual Spring Music Concert last week. Initially, Henry asked me to play the guitar or help him with back-up vocals for his song(s) but in the end, he performed his own besides helping me with mine. Here are a few shots taken by Grace during the night:

Overall, it was a good night despite the little screw-up at the beginning of my song xD Everyone else did a great job with their respective performances. Thanks again Henry for being my.. vocal coach? Haha had dinner and teh tarik with Elton and Heng Cheng after the concert before heading home.

[16 October, Friday]

There are 3 committees in the Trinity College Foundation Studies Program, namely:

  1. Foundation Studies Student Committee (FSSC)
  2. Foundation Studies Gift Committee (FSGC)
  3. Yearbook Committee (YBC)

The FSGC’s aim is sorta like to raise funds in order to be able to purchase something as a ‘gift’ to the college. Couple of examples from previous years are sofas and a foosball table. So last Friday, the FSGC had a BBQ Night at the Vatican Lawn, which is within the Trinity College campus.

Earlier that afternoon, we went to the Queen Victoria Market during our E&D lecture time for a little ‘field trip’ where we had to answer a list of questions. Later on, Amran and I were picked up by Kee Keng who then picked Jeremy and Jojo up before getting some stuff for the BBQ before going to Trinity.

Once we were on campus, Amran, Kee Keng, and I played a little soccer/volleyball on the Bulpadock (this huge field right in the middle of campus) which has been reopened recently, as it was still early then.

A little before 6pm, headed into the lawn to set up the YBC’s booth where we pre-sold bout 20 copies of ”Keepsake”, the TCFS 2009 yearbook (which needs to be completed in 3 weeks time ==). Not too bad I guess, only another 380 copies to go!!

PA160161

Okay quite lame la, I didn’t actually eat anything but a slice of pizza that night. Kept saying I wasn’t hungry at the beginning cause we snacked at the market earlier. Didn’t go hungry but later that night when I looked through the photos taken by Delima (camera was with her most of the night), the food looked pretty good. xD

PA160203

According to Jojo who’s in the FSGC, they sold bout 100 tickets? So yeah, gotta say that the turnout was pretty good. And being in Melbourne for eight months now, people weren’t thinking twice bout just chilling on the grass.

PA160179

I do not know a single person in this picture. Most of them also never see before wan. ==

PA160171

Okay at least I know three of them in this one.

PA160225

Daybreak / Day Break then performed the same songs they did during the concert:
You Give Love A Bad Name and Misery Business, and it was as good as it was the other night.

PA160250

Then it was For You I Will and Thunder by Lam. Teck Jenn your friend. xD

PA160258

Then, it started to shower a little just as the second last performance was about to begin. Some didn’t mind the weather whereas some got their umbrellas out. Fortunately, it didn’t get any heavier.

PA160292

And when I’ve Gotta Feeling started playing on the speakers, think it was Shaegan and Yogi who started gathering guys in a circle to jump and sing along to the song. Later on, it then expanded to many others (girls included). So after jumping about for a while, the night ended with a final performance.

PA160304

Marvin, Marco, i-dunno-who, i-dunno-who, Kee Keng, me, Heng Cheng, and Mizi.

All in all, I’ve gotta congratulate the Gift Committee for a great event that I’m sure everyone who attended enjoyed. Later that night, Heng Cheng, Mizi, Nicholas, and I headed to Hoyts @ Melbourne Central and watched Couples Retreat. We were joined by Zaid in the cinema. Although the movie isn’t out in Malaysia yet, I highly recommend it to y’all. It’ll crack you up. But IF it gets censored or scenes are cut then I dunno la. DVD maybe? xD

So yup, I’ve pretty much covered everything that has gone on lately. Besides the daily posts on _project 365+, the next time I make a proper post here would be next weekend when there’s actually something to blog about. Right now, looking forward to Pink Ribbon Day this coming Friday when my volunteer site will be at the Melbourne Central’s Elizabeth Street exit. Not quite sure where it is exactly, but yup, gonna be doing something very similar to the merchandise sales on Daffodil Day. Till then!
